A MacMurray College (Jacksonville, Ill.) history professor and one time chairman of the history and government department, born in England, but became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1917. Raised in Rochester, N.Y. and received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Rochester and his Ph. D. from Duke University.
